Your article has got a nice spin. That's pretty much what you can expect during a first doctor visit. Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are usually diagnosed by ruling out other medical causes. Although nowadays, they seem to be becoming increasingly common.

Thanks for the post! Deep breathing exercises are excellent for anxiety and many people report positive results from meditation. Some other natural anxiety remedies to look into are St.John's Wort, SAMe, L-Theanine, and Tryptophan.

This was a great post with lots of good tips and helpful information.
I just wanted to add a few helpful suggestions to your list, other natural anxiety remedies to look into are St.John's Wort, SAMe, L-Theanine, and Tryptophan. There's also cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and programs like Panic Away and The Linden Method, to name a few. Hope this helps!

I do believe that drug free options should be exhausted before trying medication. The success of some of these programs (such as those mentioned on this page) require us to take them very seriously.

Thank you for the tips on dealing with anxiety. A really great article.

I would also like to add the following tip. Have a serious look at your current lifestyle in the areas of diet and exercise.

Are you getting enough fibre, fruit and vegetables in your current diet or are you consuming too much processed foods. Also are you getting daily exercise and drinking enough fluids. This goes to help your overall health, which includes your mental well-being and makes life's stresses easier to handle.

I find that when I'm panicking, I play a non violent game, It takes a little while, but itll make me feel better and calm down. But when I'm at work I try to keep myself moving. When I have to stand still for a bit, taking care of a lot of customers, thats normally when my attacks happen at work. Most of the time, I'm there by myself so I can't call another employee to come and help me. I want to figure out ways to deal with it at work. How can I calm myself at work?

Progressive muscular relaxation is a great aid to lowering anxiety levels in all our lives. Even if you don't have problems with anxiety, it's a good habit to develop in the hyperactive 21st century. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I am a child psychologist specializing in the treatment and prevention of childhood anxiety disorders, and I want to thank you for your article. I'd like to add that some children are born "wired" with a "what if" or "what's wrong" orientation to the world. Some of this is genetic and likely a carryover from times when we needed to be more on the alert to simply sustain the species.

Taking a "no-fault" approach to anxiety, children can learn (and parents too) had to hear anxiety's take on a situation as their "first thought"-- fast but not accurate, and learn to cultivate a "second thought" which is accurate and more adaptive in the situation. I have written a popular book on this subject for parents and professionals: Freeing Your Child from Anxiety: Powerful, Practical Solutions to Overcome Your Child's Fears, Worries and Phobias. The interested reader can see an excerpt at www.freeingyourchild.com. Thanks for keeping this important topic on the radar for parents.
